| A book club is old? D: ..I'm offically ancient at 17 haha! And what about The Kite Runner? If people haven't read it they really need to and it would be a GREAT one to talk about

| I've heard Kite Runner was good, but I haven't read it... I don't even own that book. I'd also be up for reading any of John Green's books. An Abundance of Katherines is really good, and so is Looking for Alaska, so I'm looking forward to The Fault in Our Stars, as well as Will Grayson, Will Grayson and Paper Towns. | |

| I wouldn't mind reading The Fault in our Stars or The Kite Runner or War and Peace.
I'd also like to suggest The Social Contract by Rousseau because I had to read it for one of my classes and he's brilliant and there could be a lot of discussion on it.

I wouldn't mind doing this book. That way we can read the sequel, and the 3rd book afterwards (which will force me to finally read them).

| I know the Dragon Tattoo books are supposed to be really good...But I watched the movie, and even though the story itself was really good and I ended up enjoying the film overall, the rape scenes made me extremely uncomfortable and I would like to avoid reliving that. It's a personal opinion, and if the rest of the group wants to read the books, I'll simply bow out of this round of book club. But personally, I'd like to read something else. | |

| They don't bother me personally. Maybe it's just that, that stuff happens, it's realistic. I don't find it crude or horrible if things like sex scenes or rape or violent murders or whatever are in it. Just gives a story more of a gritty feel to me. | |

| Sex scenes don't bother me... I read a lot of romance novels. And usually, violence doesn't bother me either. But rape and abuse are big pressure points for me. I have a hard time dealing with it. | |

| not that i don't think it adds to substance and juiciness to the book..just uncomfortable at times. like i could never imagine myself reading that part out loud...if say we wanted to do a reading of the books. abuse i don't have a problem with. idk what is with rape and like child abuse or whatever. the part with rue dying in hunger games was intense for me in a way, she was so damn young and killed brutally. i had to keep telling myself, ok get over it. lol. anyway! i'm fine with whatever book we do! | |

| George RR Martin. He wrote the Song of Ice and Fire series. HBO made it into a show, Game of Thrones. They are about 1000 pages a piece books | |

| Heyla
Thus far we have had a number of options
I enjoyed Stieg Larsson's trilogy (Dragon Tattoo, Played with Fire, Kicked the Hornet's Nest) but I can completely understand how the situation could be uncomfortable.
The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins is, of course, a good option, considering the upcoming release of the first movie. (I have my District ID coming from Cafepress already and will be seeing it in Oregon! -bounce-)
The Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin started off alright but I have not managed to complete it as some of the situations leave me uncomfortable.
...
Other than that... I can TOTALLY recommend the Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss. Just... go read them. For epic-scale fantasy, I love the Wars of Light and Shadow series by Janny Wurts. She is also a wonderful artist who does her own cover illustrations. I also kind of like the Honor Harrington series and associated spinoffs by David Weber.

| I have A wise Man's Fear I think by rothfuss, but it's another one I have yet to read. I keep hearing awesome things about it though. That could be an option. | |

I feel the same. I think it opens your eyes to the story. If the book makes you feel emotion, surely it's a good book. :3 -maybe we should make a voting system somehow?
